{"id":402,"date":"2018-11-02T12:30:08","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T12:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/writeofcenter.net\/?p=402"},"modified":"2018-11-02T12:30:08","modified_gmt":"2018-11-02T12:30:08","slug":"sarcastic-sentry-volume-11-1-issue-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writeofcenter.net\/?p=402","title":{"rendered":"Sarcastic Sentry Volume 11.1, Issue 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Nike.\u00a0 Believe in profits.\u00a0 Even if it means sacrificing your soul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">A few weeks back, Nike decided to put the face of the NFL National Anthem protests on their new marketing campaign.\u00a0 It was a picture of the hapless and less than talented Colin Kaepernick with the caption, \u201cBelieve in something.\u00a0 Even if it means sacrificing everything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The timing of the ad was bad as it was a scant week before the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.\u00a0 The uproar was instantaneous.\u00a0 The NFL protests Kap started never has had the legs I think he hoped for.\u00a0 Not nearly as many fellow (former) players joined in his protest as I think he hoped for or planned.\u00a0 Sort of like the kid who invited 30 people to his birthday party and not one of them came.\u00a0 They just aren\u2019t that in to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The patriot sector of the country responded with a flurry of hilarious and fatally pointed memes that continues even today.\u00a0 Memes of Elizabeth Warren\u2014\u201cBelieve in something.\u00a0 Even it is only .1024 percent true.\u201d\u00a0 Of Bruce\/Caitlin Jenner\u2014\u201cBelieve in something.\u00a0 Even if it means cutting off your dick.\u201d\u00a0 Of Bernie Sanders\u2014\u201cBelieve in something.\u00a0 Even if it means sacrificing someone else\u2019s everything.\u201d\u00a0 A Doberman\u2014\u201cBark at everything. Even if something isn\u2019t there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Then there were the serious ones.\u00a0 Like Pat Tillman with the original slogan.\u00a0 Of Robert Beaman with the original quote.\u00a0 The serious people saw the ad as a direct affront to national pride and patriotism.\u00a0 These do really did sacrifice everything for something they believed in.\u00a0 No greater lover, and such.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I watched the stock.\u00a0 I thought the marketing ad was a foolish thing.\u00a0 Nike was going to tank.\u00a0 People and investors would flee.\u00a0 But I forgot that the dollar is more powerful than pride.\u00a0 The stock dropped almost three dollars over the weekend.\u00a0 The investors were dumping it.\u00a0 But then by September 21, the stock had rebounded to higher than it was when the ad came out.\u00a0 People with money sold high, not because of a sense of duty or outrage, but because they saw a money making opportunity.\u00a0 The same people bought back in low.\u00a0 Those people knew that the public, the cattle, have about a three day attention span.\u00a0 They\u2019ll forget.\u00a0 They won\u2019t care after the initial fervor is over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Investors are savvy even if it means having no morals or values.\u00a0 I think the whole thing might have just been market manipulation.\u00a0 A means to an end.\u00a0 Dollars over decency.\u00a0 Profits over patriotism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Idolizing a mediocre player who defames and disrespects the national anthem proves it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Kap was not that great a quarterback.\u00a0 He never had a QB rating in the 100s.
